Using Speculative Design to craft the worlds first Intelligent Typeface!
Speculating in the Realm of Communication
CENSORGLYPHS puts digital language to the test. In an era where algorithms amplify populism, hate, and outrage, this speculative design project makes our words visible. Using artificial intelligence, every comment is typographically interpreted: respectful discourse appears clear and visually appealing, while hate-filled statements are censored through design. In an interactive Scenario Space, users experience firsthand how their language transforms typography — immediate feedback that sparks reflection. CENSORGLYPHS invites us to reconsider our use of language: Do we really need AI to censor us, or can we take responsibility for our words ourselves?

Does respectful language look different from hate speech? And if so, how does it differ? With CENSORGLYPHS we wildly discussed ideas about the use and functionality of Type within our society.
We built a Scenario Space in which visitors could interact with the Typography and test their own inputs.

In order to make this speculative design approachable for the public, we used Creative Coding to create an interactive installation, mimiking how CENSORGLYPHS would feel if it were to exist within today's technology.
In our speculative Scenario CENSORGLYPHS has brought stability and peace. But can Censorship ever really create peace?
